The National African American Insurance Association of Colorado (NAAIA-CO) includes executives, agents, brokers, claims & risk professionals, underwriters, financial management, and others in insurance-related fields who either work or live in Colorado.
In the fall of 2019, discussions began between PIIAC (Professional Insurance Agents of Colorado) President Bryan Bernier and Liberty Mutual employees Bronwyn Williams and Peter “PC” Carter to start a NAAIA chapter in Colorado. Initial efforts were stifled due to the pandemic, which began in March, 2020. Through hard work and perseverance of Bryan, Bronwyn, PC and their chapter formation committee, NAAIA-CO received its official charter on December 17, 2021 by the NAAIA National Board under the leadership of Chapter President, PC Carter, with 25 members.
NAAIA-CO is dedicated to empowering African-American insurance professionals currently in the industry as well as increasing their numbers statewide. We engage in the sharing of information for personal growth and professional development while providing opportunities for networking, continuing education, and building mutually beneficial partnerships. We build relationships with traditional insurance industry trade associations and other organizations representing the interest of minorities in the ever growing, emerging multicultural marketplace of this business.
It is also our goal to educate our Black and underserved communities within Colorado on the benefits of insurance and other financial management tools to foster financial health.
The National African American Insurance Association (NAAIA) was founded in 1997 by Jerald L. Tillman, LUTCF, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Early in his career, Jerald, as he interacted with professional organizations, realized that there was a “disconnect” with fellow black insurance industry professionals. As a result, he began pondering the idea of establishing an association for black professionals involved in all aspects of insurance. After twenty years of juggling between building his insurance agency and a national network of black insurance professionals, NAAIA was chartered in Cincinnati on March 5, 1997 as a tax exempt association under the IRS 501©6 code.
NAAIA was organized to create a network among people of color and others employed in or affiliated with the insurance industry. The association currently has 21 chapters (1 other in development) throughout the nation and its members represent every sector of the industry. Pooling this wealth of talent contributes significantly to the association and its members through the sharing of professional knowledge, information and experiences.
